Before construction of a website can begin,
consultation is needed to determine detailed client requirements, including characteristics such as:
|
|
-
Domain Name
What Domain Name(s) is/are required? Is the site intended for viewing by people in the immediate locality, nationwide or globally? Does the company already trade with a particular name or with a particular core product? Many different considerations can influence decisions over the Domain Name(s) to be used.
-
Site style and complexity
Will the site be purely for advertising (a ‘brochure’ site)? Will it contain lists and detail of products (a ‘database’ site)? Also, will it require on-line sales (an ‘e-commerce’ site)?
-
Required number of pages
Roughly how many pages will be needed?
What will their Page Titles and Descriptions be?
-
Logo(s)
Are company or site logos readily available or will they need to be designed as part of the project?
-
Colour Schemes and Fonts
What colour palettes and fonts are preferred?
Perhaps corporate colours and fonts may be already established.
Which colours and fonts will produce an attractive and effective web site?
-
Images
Are images, photos, pictures and diagrams readily available or will they need to be created/designed as part of the project? Also, from what source and in what format will images be?
(eg. digital-camera / standard photographs / sketches / various PC file formats)
-
Copy
Will copy (wording) be provided or, again, will it need to be created and developed?
-
External Links
Are there any relevant websites to link to, or even exchange external links with?
(eg. Memberships, Affiliations, 'sister companies' &/or related sites of interest etc?
- email addresses
What email address(es) are needed initially?
Are emails to be forwarded to other addresses using aliases?
Will automatic responses be required etc?

Once detailed initial requirements have been determined, and a good idea gained of the way the site is intended to appear,
actual site construction can begin. |
